Summer book study - Your Students, My Students, Our Students. Rethinking Equitable and Inclusive Classrooms
Join us to read and discuss a book that fits nicely into our continued focus on equity and inclusion.and will help us think about what it means to ensure that each classroom is a place where all students can thrive. A schedule will be posted on Google classroom with questions for reflection that can be approached on your own time schedule. All those who participate will be invited to 2 optional discussions during the summer where the book will be discussed with whomever can make it. By fully participating you can earn 10 PDPs. Please reach out to Alyssa Lacasse ([email protected]) if you are interested in participating and so we can get a book to you before summer arrives.

Inclusive Practices - MURSD Summer Course
We will utilize the free DESE Inclusive Practices course that provides educators with 15 PDPs using a workshop model to learn together. The course dives right into the elements of inclusive practices and deepens educators’ understanding of effective inclusive classrooms as well as the educator actions needed to implement them. Directly from the DESE website, the goals of this course are to:
deepen understanding of inclusive practice and why it is important to implement in classrooms, schools, and districts;
gain insight into strengths and barriers to learning that can arise as a result of a disability and ways that educators can maximize the ability for students to participate in general education with their non-disabled peers;
build knowledge of three frameworks of inclusive practice: Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS);
deepen understanding of the characteristics of effective inclusive instructional/assessment approaches for identifying and addressing students’ diverse needs;
gain awareness of the importance of gathering feedback from all students, including ones with disabilities, and learn about ways to use accessible instruments and processes;
build knowledge of ways to strengthen professional collaboration, shared responsibility and family engagement to support the implementation of inclusive practice; and
reflect on current practices and plan ideas to apply in their work with students and across the school community.
When: July 25th- July 29th Where: Memorial Elementary What else: Participants will earn 15 PDPs. Contact: Wendy Bell
