Information Literacy and AI (4-12) with Brandon Hall
Information literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, organize, use, and communicate information in all its various formats, most notably in situations requiring decision making, problem solving, or the acquisition of knowledge. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), students, teachers, and community members can leverage the technology to their advantage - but at what cost? This hands-on session will focus on integrating Scratch Jr. into your early learning ELA curriculum. We'll review the basics of how to use the app, discuss sample projects and brainstorm new ways to use it. Bring an iPad and get ready to dive into computer science for digital storytelling! Elementary and grade 5 teachers are invited to collaborate with a focus on our K-5 Curriculum Resource - Bridges. Educators can spend time creating manipulatives, discussing implementation strategies and sharing resources on the online platform. Reflection in Project-Based Learning (3-12) with Nick Cuomo
Reflection is the process by which we make meaning of our experiences. In Project Based Learning, students need opportunities to pause, consider the work and learning they are doing, make connections, and ask new questions. In this workshop, we will learn about the importance of reflection, and consider how to make space and time for intentional and purposeful reflection within our projects. Educators who are enrolled in our district-wide book study of Unlocking English Learners’ Potential, or who need PDPs in SEI for licensure and would like to join us, are welcome to gather together and use this time to collaboratively tackle one or more of the parts of the Google Classroom assignments. You can plan to use the whole 2 hours or split your time between this and another session. If you are not yet enrolled in the book study but would like to join register in our Google Classroom, and contact Brittany O’Neil in advance of our March 5th PD day. Dive into the concept of digital culture and its implications for removing–or accidentally adding–barriers to teaching and learning. Through realistic discussions on the benefits and challenges of using iPads in education, participants will explore strategies for effective iPad integration, including managing devices in the classroom with Apple Classroom, and sharing ideas and resources to build a collaborative digital culture. Elementary and Middle School teachers who have been or will be trained in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) can sign up for this session to collaborate with each other in identifying units that would enhance the K-8 science curriculum, adjusting curriculum maps to reflect the unit implementation and ordering the appropriate materials for next year. Anyone working on the Innovative Career Pathways at the HS can also sign up for this session. |

Educators who want more time with their colleagues to share what they accomplished in the morning session, and take next steps towards reviewing and self-assessing curriculum maps, can use this time to continue to work collaboratively. To sign up you have to have at least one other person in your grade or department that you sign up with. In addition to completing the feedback form, fill this form out as a group to share what you accomplished. |
